Bruce’s Grand Canyon paintings have always been about the rocks. He began painting rock surfaces in 1999 and continued this unique close view through 2011. These paintings increased his body of work on the Grand Canyon, giving him one of the most comprehensive bodies of work on the canyon: from macro to micro view.
“I feel love for these rocks for being what they were, as part of the age and history of the canyon. Their journey fascinates me: how they became what they became. How they were hidden away and then exposed again. Here I am holding in my hand something that is 250 million years old, had been buried in the earth and is now visible again in all its beauty and color. It is unbelievable. I am so grateful that I got to share a tiny bit of their journey.” – Bruce
